Brief description
This geosite is the best place to observe the coarse sedimentary deposits of conglomerate and breccioid facies from to the Funchal Formation, Upper Volcanic Complex (CVS). Along the section that fallous the seafront promenade, it is possible to observe the following sequence from bottom to top: i) breccioid sedimentary deposits from eroding slopes; (ii) lahar-type sedimentary deposits composed by anociations of conglomeratic and breccioid facies that resulted from sedimentary debris flow, from flash – flooding events; (iii) weathered pyroclastic deposits of yellowish colour that transition to flow "block-and-ash" deposits of reddish colour; (iv) ’a’a-type lava flows; (v) conglomeratic and breccioid deposits from mud-flaws.
