At this site one can observe a cover of basaltic pyroclasts, pyroclastic covering of the fallen basalt, that corresponds the most recent volcanic eruption in Madeira and the only one confirmed to have occurred in the Holocene. The deposit was carbon-dated from charcoal that formed at its base, from the vegetation that when underwent coalification pyroclasts buried it. It is estimated to be 6000 – 7000 years old.
These pyroclasts cover a deposit of angular clasts formed under periglacial conditions.
